HOPE YOU ARE ENJOYING THE MAY 2-4 WEEKEND

NEXT RACE

The first race of the season is less than one week away (May 27) in PARIS Ontario. After consulting Jonah Logan, our river guide and host, it was decided that we would add three new categories to the regular list.

To connect to Jonah Logan please use the email: Jonah@northshorepaddlesurf.com.

Those would be BOARD classifications: 14′, 12’6″ and 11′ and under. Since there are few 14′ inflatables out there, this will allow for more participation and competition.

BOARD REVIEW – 2016 Naish Javelin

Board Review - 2016 Naish Javelin

BY: Steve Martin

Javelin Carbon boards are race designs suitable for ambitious racers and professional competition. They feature a state-of-the-art rocker line and newly developed deck and bottom shape for lightning fast acceleration and ultimate gliding speed.

Available in 24″, 26″ and 28″ widths, the newly refined Javelins feature a carbon construction, which makes for an incredibly lightweight and stiff board with even more direct board feel.

Engineered with a recessed stance area, the new shapes bring the center of effort lower, increasing rider stability without adding additional width to the body. The center double-concave bottom also maximizes directional stability, while increased tail volume and tucked edges optimize board positioning for controlled, yet aggressive buoy turns with faster recovery.

The advanced dihedral nose shape allows water to instantly release instead of wrap, forcing water to split off the sides of the board instead of toward the riders’ feet. This creates more lift when pearling, allowing the rider to continue their smooth pace without interruption.

Collingwood – Race Recap

LONG DISTANCE RACE

We had a lot of different conditions for the Sidelaunch Days Collingwood Race.

The Elite had their challenge in the outer harbour (see below). Strong winds put up a very good wave break after a 1km downwinder with an uphill battle to do the inner harbour leg.

BOARD REVIEW – Blu Wave Carbon Race 12.6/14.0 and Carbon Race 12.6/14.0 Pro Elite

2016 Carbon Race 12-6 x 25

BY: Aaron Pilon

RE-DESIGNED FOR 2016!   For 2016 we have overhauled the shape of our winning race design, and introduced two different widths in each length – 12’6” x 25”, 12’6” x 27”, 14’ x 24” and 14’ x 27”.   In the 27” versions we’ve created a more stable board that will excel in a variety of conditions, including waves and will be ideal for downwinding and racing in various conditions.   Increased tail width and volume ads to the stability for downwinding and open water racing. Fibreglass and Carbon layers, with Kevlar edge reinforcements yield a light weight board with far greater durability than full carbon constructed race boards.

For 2016 we have added 25” and 24” widths in the 12.6 and 14.0, under the Pro Elite badge. Constructed with our biaxial carbon construction with re-enforcement layers of Kevlar in impact and standing areas (rails and edges), the new Carbon Race Pro Elite models are light weight speed machines. Advanced and expert riders will feel ample stability despite the narrow profile, due to the slight concave bottom shape. We’ve downwinded on these boards and continue to be amazed by the combination of speed and stability we have achieved with this design.

Shapers Notes: With distinct piercing entry nose, the board cuts through the water like a knife and convex deck shape sheds water to minimize water washing over the standing area. A wider and thicker tail than the 2015 versions, and slight V bottom through back third of the board releases water effortlessly and assists in directional efficiency. A moderate rocker line, prevents pearling in chop or while downwinding, and promotes planning when at race speeds.

We’re proud to say that the Pro Elite 12.6 and 14.0 versions are the board of choice of the Ontario SUP Series Elite Division points leaders, Ariel Amaral and Mike Howes, both Blu Wave SUP Team Riders.

Thanks to Ash Adams and Westshore Clothing and Surf Shop for once again hosting a unique race with an option leg for the Elite racers.

As you can see from above, the scenery was post card perfect and we had an outstanding representation from our Youth Nation.

The racing was close quarters and there were several obstacles not excluding large yachts in the boat channel. A great turnout and the hosts made sure there were lots of prizes for the winners and everyone received a West Shore

T-shirt.
